MY  KIND
An open letter to the universe.

To Whomever is out there:

   I live on a small planet, one of nine orbiting our star, which we call the Sun.  There is no sign of life on any of the other eight, but our planet abounds with life; there are 40 or 50 million kinds of life here.  I am an example of one kind.
   "Humans" as we call ourselves, are the most complex thing on the planet.  Our brain is an astonishingly and sometimes frighteningly complicated perception & control system; and perhaps, as one of us once wrote, "Too clever by half."  We are quite impressed with ourselves.  Some of us think we are the best and most special creatures in all the universe.  I imagine you will think otherwise.
